#2 of the Dangerous Type Mystery Series

Started on 6/22/20 finished 6/23/20

Clare is in her grandfather's shop when a movie star, Matt Bane, comes in to buy some note cards with his initials so that he can write thank you cards to people who have helped him. Her niece, Madison, is very taken with him and she has to come out and help with the purchase. Since the shop makes the notecards she lets him know when they will be ready. While they are conducting business his assistant and sister keep coming into the store demanding his attention. After he leaves and goes back to his hotel there is a commotion there and she follows her best friend, Jodi, to the hotel and sees the actor being arrested. She just doesn't' believe he would commit the heinous act of killing his own sister. She wheedles her way into the jail and visits him and learns some things about what happened and agrees to help him where she can - finding out if his attorney is coming and why his assistant hasn't come to see him.

There are some things that I found dismaying about the story, a police officer who wields his power, a friend/assistant who is hiding information about something that happened, the forcing people to bend to the will of others (Hollywood types that want Clare's friend, who is a sister-wife to let them into their world) and using people to get what they want. On the whole, the story was interesting as there is some very good information about typewriters and old money (see $10,000 dollar notes with Salmon P. Chase). I will be reading another from the series, soon.
