Walking to Listen: 4,000 Miles Across America One Story at a Time
by Andrew Forsthoefel
Andrew set out on a journey across America using as the basis Henry David Thoreau and Jack Kerouac. He wanted to have more in his life and felt that if he took this journey of walking and listening to people talk it would open a new world to him. In a way, it did. He tells some of the more memorable stories and things that he encountered on his journey. He tells about what he learned about himself. I was laughing at the stories of the Squirrel feast and learning from a man who said he forgives because he wants to get into heaven and he knows from the Bible that if he doesn't forgive he will never make it there. He learns that part of him is afraid of dying, another part still hurts from his father and mother divorcing.
This story was so interesting and pulling that I actually recommended it to other moms at the pool.
